Can this be done? I have been racking my brains trying to gifigure this one out. i am running WIN 98 (because of a programme that needs it) and have it on an old 386 computer, since the programme is rarely used. Problem being, I only have uSB printers to work with. Any ideas for a work around, or do I need to search for a parallel printer?? If so, where to get such a dinosaur?
Thanks

Most people confuse USB to parallel (allow you to use parallel printers on USB ports) with what you need (which is the opposite) and a quick search through USB vendors didn't find any. Neither did a Google search.

I would recommend get a parallel printer, since it's practically impossible to get a USB port into your existing PC (Win98 means it's pretty much doomed)

The other possibility is network the old PC, though it may be more trouble than it's worth, and have it print to a network printer (then it wouldn't know the difference).

Parallel printers can still be found... You'll just have to look for refurbed printers.

Only a few printers can be used via more than one computer at a time. When your usb is plugged in you pc lpt port is disabled and vice versa. A Better option for you would be to connect your printer to your home network. It is entirely safe.

You can get a parallel to USB adapter im sure there is one out there, check ebay out and see, even then you might have some issues still.. You can always just get a usb add on card, there very cheap and fit in a PCI slot.. If your running 98 you might have to manually install drivers seeing how PnP back then sorta sucked..

go to the source and buy an adapter that allows the printer to be hooked up to a parallel port.

They cost about $15.00 on line. Try Sewell Direct. http://sewelldirect.com/usbtoparallel.asp
