Who hasn't? In my case it was because I gave them a sense of security.

Yes, I had a best friend who was attached to me at the waist. We did everything together and I thought we would always be friends. One day a guy I liked told me that he had been thinking about dating me but changed his mind when he found out about me boosting clothes at the mall. I was shocked to hear this, as I had a decent job and took pride in buying my clothes at specialty shops.
When I asked him where he heard such a thing, he first said he didn't want to talk about it. I then insisted that he tell me and was doubly shocked to hear him say my best friend had told him this lie. I actually got angry with the guy, because I thought he was lying on my friend. I rushed home and called her, but she wasn't home. I then called another mutual friend and told her about the vicious lie this guy had told on my best friend. I was shocked again, when she said she knew all about me stealing clothes. My friend had told her the same thing! I tried to make this girl understand that it wasn't true, but she kept telling me that I should stop stealing before I get caught. It was a complete nightmare!
When I confronted my friend and broke friendship with her, it broke my heart, as well. I loved her like a sister. After the breakup, several people came to me with even more of her lies, explaining that they didn't want to say anything while she and I were friends. Although this happened more than 30 years ago, I feel the pain as if it were yesterday, and I have never allowed another person to get that close to me again.

Yeah, and then January of last year she proved that she had never been my friend. She only talked to me because she was a copycat and stole my identity.
