I will be using it mainly for black-and-white letter printing, a little colour from time to time. Cheap/refillable cartridges are a bonus. don't need photo printing or anything like that.

for all of the printers i've had (and thrown away), all of the canon printers usually last the longest. they also print very crisp black-and-white. the color cartridges seem to last the longest as well and i've actually seen sales on their cartridges where they cost less than a new printer (which is always a plus). happy printing!

not a whole lot are refillable these days as most are smart chipped. The best cartridge value is a going to be in a canon, avoid integrated print heads if you are only going to be using the colour sporadically.

If you're looking for long term reliability, I have had very good experiences with Brother printers. I have used several different Brother machines at work and they are work horses. One machine was in daily use for 6+ years and it still works decently today.

I have used several different HP printers (although none in the last 3-4 years) and I always started having problems after 8-10 months. And these were my home printers.

Lemark makes a good inexpensive functional printer and quality is comparable to HP on many levels. Cartridges are cheaper too!

I like HP quality. For your needs, you should be able to find an inexpensive model at Best Buy.

hp all in one is great quality and pretty fast at printing. You can scan, print, copy, and print pictures.
