I am secretary of Integration, healing and reconciliation in a political party strugling to remove an oppressive regime, in Southern Africa. My party has asked me to write out a policy document to guide our party now and when we are in government. The regime is cruel and has killed thousands of people, banned private newspapers, outlawed demonstrations and removed peoples' freedoms.

One suggestion...

Well, I am sure your party's confidence in you is not unfounded. Maybe, don't tell them you came here looking for answers.

Read Ayn Rand (non fiction). 'Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal', talks about the relations between the economy, the government, and the free individual. The 'Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution', talks about mistakes strong nations make that make them weak over time.

I rcommend this because it sounds as though the common theme in your description of the past is lack of regard for liberty. you might try the U.S. Constitution too.

If you are talking about Zimbabwe or Zambia, you would need all the help you can get! (I used to live in Pretoria and was born in Salisbury (now Harare) during the real 'Bush War'
