After the release of the last 2006 box office hit 'Night at the museum' it slows down the speed of the 'dreamgirls'

It will probably get wider distribution later on. Many times studios will do a limited release in December to get the film out that year and qualify for any awards (Golden Globes, Oscars, etc) offered that year. By doing a wider release later on, it will be closer to the actual voting for the awards and hopefully it's success will be fresh in the minds of the voters.
