snow white & the seven dwarfs is one of my favorite fairy tales, i grew up with it.. but the fact that she lives with seven men is very questionable. Also there are theories of her also as a lesbian.. the witch offers her a luscious red apple, in the book the apple is described with the connotations of seduction. The fact that the apple brought death to snow white furthermore gives more room for questioning. It is like garden of eves.. whatever, it is whatever you wanna believe...

I always thought that it was a simple children's fairytale.

If we're going to delve more deeply I would say Snow White is a downtrodden slave to seven fat lazy male chauvinists who can't be bothered to look after themselves!

Ooooh good question.
A girl in that time would NEVER have lived alone with all those men, so yes, I reckon behind the scenes she could have been a floozy!
The apple thing seems to be correct too - and the other gifts that she was given; a corset and a comb, add to the fact that she was trying to make herself look better - i.e. so she could be seduced....but I suppose, she refused them, so that gives her some sort of defence.
A garden of Eden remains to be said, perhaps she ate the apple to escape a life of endless cleaning and skivvying for the dwarves, I mean, if she bucked tradition to go and live with seven men, then maybe she didn't want to be tied to the kitchen sink.

I don't know if I agree with your logic here, but you sure bring a new side to Snow White. Thanks for the fun - but now I will think of this fairy tale as "Snow White, Brazen Lesbian and the Seven Little Perverts." Another childhood myth shot to hell.

Oh and "Alison Of The Shire's" answer made me laugh out loud. Great question and great answers. Well done all.

Given that in the original Grimm version (not that Disney blasphemy) Snow White is SEVEN YEARS OLD, I do not believe that she is either a floozy or a lesbian. Just a thought.

If you are interested in this angle on fairy tales, look out for an old book called Individuation in Fairy Tales by Jung. He has some very interesting things to say about such stories.

Could she have been a sister to the dwarfs? I have a friend who is the only girl out of 6 kids. that mean she lives with 5 guys. they all moved out of their parents house and some how or another they all ended up renting the same house. two had been the orginal renters.....the others ended up needing a place to stay. anyway....she is the only girl in a house full of guys. and guys are lazy so she ends up doing most of the house work.
I bet she is the frist to move out also. Snow White was just hiding out there.... I bet she was looking to move out asap :-D

I don't think Walt Disney was thinking along those lines. Today's Disney Corp. may be different, but these characters and stories were usually lifted from older stories that have been around for hundreds of years.

In my mind, Snow White is an idealized version of an innocent female... sweet and pure. I think that is what Walt wanted everyone to enjoy... something nice. It's a relief from what we would see out in the everyday world. It was Good entertainment for those war years back in the forties.

but she never did anything sexual for the dwarfs she just kept their place clean and tidy and cooked their meals which makes her more of a skivvy in my book, like the idea of the apple of suduction and relation to the garden of eves but most of childrens stories originate from the Grimm Brothers and the really story is not a fairytale as such there is a lot more depth to it

I do. I mean, all that sweetness and cute flitting about singing syrupy songs, come on!! Definitely something suspicious there. What is she trying hide? Sounds like overcompensation to me. Living with seven old guys and dressing younger than her age. Hmm. And another thing, what about social services? Shouldn't they be involved in this sorry tale? All very sus.

Just go back to reading the story as you did when you were a child. You have overthought this to the point of ridiculousness.
