I was thinking about this just recently. I got thinking how horrible it must have been for someone in solitary confinement or simply being in jail for years, with no books, radio, television, etc. If a killer today was in a cell with limited privileges and social contacts and basic food, in other words a punishment situation, I think he/she would be better off dead. I still think that capital punishment is barbaric though. Then there is the problem of the crime itself. Is it a husband who kills his wife in a fit of rage [or vice versa] or is it a serial killer or a contract killer? I think there is a huge difference in motive that needs consideration. It is a tough question to answer.

Absolutely not it is bad enough with it what would it be like if we did not have capital punishment. It would cost a fortune to house all the prisoners for the rest of their natural life. They should not do the crime if the do not want to have the punishment they deserve.

Yes I do think it should be abolished. I know though that people say 'well what if someone killed your son or daughter' and I say well I would want to personally kill them myself....very slowly. But I would not be in a rational state of mind.
If murder is barbaric then so is legalised murder....murder is either right or wrong.
I don't think you can say, 'okay you killed, that's wrong so now we'll kill you! It doesn't make sense. Some say an eye for an eye but that doesn't get you anywhere just continued violence.
I don't believe though, that you should turn the other cheek either.

No. Each country is independent and should not be able to force their ideas and beliefs on others. What you are asking could also be stated as, would you like the former Taliban laws enacted world wide? When you try to force your ideas and beliefs on others, then you increase violence on everyone. An example of this is the religious strife around the world.

Short answer - no. We know that humans have the capacity to be unreasonable. In those circumstances, safe and moral (yes, moral) behaviors established as beneficial by and for the society must be forced from them by fear of punishment.
As far as other countries go, each nation must be sovereign in its own affairs. It's just too bad places like North Korea won't let their people leave. We've always said, "America: love it or leave it." Wouldn't it be nice if people were allowed to leave Cuba?

That is a very gray area for me. Definitely violent crimes should be punished by death, but only if the person is truly evil. That being said, a medium should be present to make sure when the soul is expelled from the body it does not invade another person, weak minded people are a target for the invasion of evil souls, that is where demonic possession stems from. I know I will get thumbs down for my beliefs but they are MY beliefs and I have a right to voice them just as much as anybody else.

Capital punishment is barbaric and certainly no deterrent to crime. It serves no purpose other then revenge. Murder is murder whether it be by the state or an individual and taking a life is wrong. Yes by all means it should be abolished and gone the way of slavery.

Who says the death penalty is supposed to be a deterrent to violent crime? To me it is very simple if you do murder someone than you forfeit your right to live period! Putting people in jail and having to spend the money to house them, feed them, and provide medical care for them is a tax burden on law abiding citizens essentially punishing society for it's criminals. I am also a believer that in states with a three strikes law that your third strike results in an automatic death sentence. Once again it is simple, if you are incapable of living in society without consistently proving that you are a danger to other people you forfeit your right to life. Criminals would either shape up or move to another country, a win-win situation as far as I am concerned.

When these days if I want to murder your neighbour all I have to do is buy an amateur CSI kit. Then stake out your house for a couple of months in Miami take some of your hair and fingerprints from your hairbrush thrown in your garbage some of your saliva from your old tooth brush. Put them on the murder weapon and around the victims house then wait for you to go someplace on your own and kill the person. I guarentee you that an anonomous phone call to the cops will lead to your arrest and execution, I think, I should be asking you do you think Capital punishment is a good idea.

No, I do not think capital punishment should be abolished. In fact, I think there should be less appeals and all the crap, and more executions. No more letting folks sit in death row for years where they are more likely to die of old age than of executions. Convict...sentence...execute. That is how it should be.
