Most, if not all, email engines will not allow a 2nd simultaneous log-on. Typically the 2nd log-in attempt would get an error message.

Depends on how you are doing this.
If it is web based mail (hotmail, webmail yahoo mail etc) then loggin on from a different computer MAY cause the session on the other computer to logout.
If you are just accessing the email files from say outlook then no they would not know unless your email viewer locks out the files but as you are just viewing this should be ok.

I don't think so, as long as it is mail that has already been checked. If it is a new message then it will show that it has already been read. Just some advice though, if your children are under 18 you don't need to sneak around and read their mail, come out and tell them that you need access to their account because you are their mother and you want to monitor them. Sneaking is just going to cause them to lie about it, but if they know you will be keeping an eye on them they will be less inclined to get involved in things they know you wouldn't approve of.

Not from what I know. Just remember that if you read any new messages, make sure to mark it as unread when you are finished...my wife has a tendency to snoop around my email a bit but doesn't cover up her trail :)...
