"Bonus pts" if you can name the President who said these things...

In an annual message to Congress:
"We are inspired by a faith that goes back through all the years to the first chapter of the book of Genesis: 'God created man in His own image.' We on our side are striving to be true to that divine heritage. We are fighting, as our fathers have fought, to uphold the doctrine that all men are equal in the sight of God."

In a radio address:
"Many people have urged that I call the nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts."

I'm reading a book on a U.S. President and the language that he used in his speeches struck me because of all the religous references in it. I think people would be up in arms over this type of thing today.

I think it was FDR. Yes the world would be very upset if a President said any of these things today. It is sad that our country's morals have gone so far astray that you do not have the choice to pray where you want and or put down or made fun of if you do!!!!

Yes the President could choose to say these things today, President Carter and President GW Bush have both expressed their faith frequently and openly. I would think that it may be FDR that you are quoting . The reaction to these words, may differ somewhat today

Was it FDR?
And no, a president wouldn't still say that, lest he be called a hypocrite, especially if he led us into war.
Oh, wait...
