I have a PC Chips M848A motherboard which can support up to 400 MHz FSB - so it will support up to the Athlon XP 3200.

I am currently running an Athlon XP 2400 (266 MHz FSB) with 1GB DDR 2100. Would I see any significant improvement by upgrading to an XP 3200 processor and/or upgrading my RAM?

On the other hand, would I be better off just waiting a while and going with one of the newer generation machines?

I would normally say go for it but the way AMD and Intel are going at the moment by the time the newer generation machines are out the one you have will be well out of date so i would wait a little longer and get a better upto date machine

You will not see any big gains in upgrading the speed of this processor.... If anything you will lose money since you have to find someone to buy the old CPU to recover some of the costs....
