A few weeks ago my heater stopped working, i put water into the coolant system but later on that day the car began making a funny noise then could smell burning then the car just slowed to a stop and would not start again. When i then poured water/anti freeze into the coolant level it just leaked out of the radiator, was the cause not having any water in the coolant level for a while and how can i get my car going again??

go to a garge to get it fixed. you've got a cracked radiator. possibley caused by putting cold water in your car while its hot, you should use warm water.

you are in bother, it sounds like you have been running with no water in the engine due to a holed radiator. The engine will be totally beyond repair if you have run it until it stopped. A second hand engine from a breakers yard should be around £300-£400 you will have fitting on top. To sell the car as it is i doubt if you will get much more than scrap value

Can't believe that you just kept driving it till the engine probably blew up for lack of coolant! Take it to a garage and ask for an estimate before going ahead to see if the car is worth repairing. And no. your insurance prob will not cover it as that is negligence! Good luck (maybe car maintenance classes for next birthday would be a good idea?)

That probably was the cause, maybe the thermostat has shut down the engine so as not to cause further damage. Sounds like you need a new radiator, you may also need a new thermostat. In future keep an eye on the temperature guage, if it goes too high you are low on coolant!

probably new/replacement engine
did the low water light come on
did the oil temp rise dramatically

you may be lucky it may not have done serious damage.. the cylinder head is probably warped... it may just need skinning & refitting, but if the car was hot prior to the coolant going then its proboably fatal to the engine

its a garage job in my view

First check the condition of the upper and lower hoses. Then make sure that the water is not leaking from the water pump. If you are then positive that it is the radiator... you will need to replace it.

Could you use radweld (I think that's what it's called) to block up the radiator if there is a hole? Try talking to a mechanic but not saying you'll take the car there for work in case they charge you a fortune. Good luck.

in the antifreeze compartment goes only antifreeze! No water ! You can damage your car very seriously ! you might need new gasket or a new thermometer for the heater . Best to drop it of in the shop and have it looked at . Unless one of your friends is a carmechanic

sounds like you have knackered it. you will definately need a new rad probably be about 100 quid but if you have driven it till it stopped then you may have done more damage to it than just the radiator.
get it to a reputable garage and get them to check it over. i think its gonna be expensive though
