"Ben" is the name of his pet rat ~ remember the one that his father (Joe) poisoned? Additionally, that song became a theme for B-movie, but I suppose you weren't born when that movie made its first premiere.

Ben was the pet of a boy (a rat), not so sure about the end but something happends either his parents banished/ killed the pet or it just got dissapear.
