I find that when you do something you really like to do, be that art, cleaning, walking, listening to music, dancing....anything at all...it draws your attention away from that which depresses you.
Also, writing about what depresses you, your regrets and how differently you'd do things really works! It allows you to purge your negative thoughts onto a piece of paper and you can do with it what you want.
Sometimes doing something you REALLY like helps you avoid negative thoughts and feelings and in the long run helps you find yourself.
You already know who you are...you just have to accept it and not care what other people say or think ...and move one.
Peace and Happiness to you in this New Year!
Ciao

You can find yourself by introspection and if you work on analyzing what makes you depressed then you already have won half the battle. Next thing you might do is to avoid things that make you depressed and learn to accept the things that are beyond your control. You may not be overly religious but a little faith goes a long way in dealing with depression.

if you are thinking about depression, buddy, you are already unhappy.
Try finding God and ask him to help you find yourself. Depression is a cycle that can be cured if you are aware of it and if you are willing to heal yourself. Of course, you could ask for help to the only powers that understands you compeletly and has no other intentions but to heal you and get you back to heaven in peace. GOD.
I am not even sure how so many people lost their way from God. Everyone is wondering why they are never complete or feel happy.
If you don't do it for God and your next life, what is really the point of living. Think about it...by the time your 80 you might have Alzheimer's and forget everything that you had ever done.
But if you live for God and have him help you with all His powers, then you will be saved in your next life.
Ok?

One thing you have got to realise is that everyone feels loney and lost at least once a week and that although people might seem happy, it's really appears vs reality. You on the other hand don't hide the fact that you are feeling lost. The best thing to do would be to experience different fashion, hobbies and that way you find out what it is that you like instead of liking something someone else does coz they think it's cool. Good luck.

Get close to nature. Take a walk in the woods. Watch the sun rise or set. We have lost touch with nature & this is why many of us get stressed & depressed. Find some serenity in the beauty of the world & with this quiet time to reflect you will also find yourself.
Also, do things that you enjoy. Whatever it is (whether it's cooking, painting, writing, building model planes, fixing bikes, whatever works for you) if you spend time doing it, you will be happier.
Listen to music, write (keep a journal). Find yourself. Then love yourself. Then love life. Then you can't be depressed.
Good luck!
(Now if I can just take my own advice! I'm feeling a little lost & melancholy myself these days!)

Dear Samaraver,
Let me start by telling you that depression goes hand in hand with medical problems (Type 1 diabetes & hypothyroidism) I have. Since I take shots & pills to treat those things I no longer want to take pills for depression.
I liken the depression to Spiritual Diabetes. I nearly died before I was diagnosed with Type 1 but once I was diagnosed and felt the insulin flowing through my body I could feel myself coming back to life.
When my life was falling apart at the seams (unwanted divorce after 25 years of marriage and layoff in the same year) I read the Bible from cover-to-cover and felt LIFE flowing through me.
Instead of trying to find yourself, let yourself be found by the awesome uncreated Creator of the univserse. He is waiting for you to turn to Him because He loves you. In fact, if He had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.

What you thought before has led to every choice you made. You are the sum total of these choices. If you want to change who you are (physically, spiritually, mentally), you have to change what you think. Depression is a cancer of your thoughts, it spreads quickly and eats away at your self-esteem . . .you have to learn to think positive: You are it all already!
There is a great book I read written by Marty Seligman, phd called "Learned Optimism" . . . yes it can be learned, and he gives you an effective method to learn it. Perhaps this might help you. Also, sounds like you need inspiration. I recommend any book written by Wayne Dyer.
He is excellent. Best of luck to you . . . keep seeking . . . you're on the right path.

Stay focused on the beacon of truth and light provided 24/7/365 by God. The Holy Spirit (John 14 and 1 Corinthians 2;10-16) will transform you and show you joy, love and eternal freedom from pain. The first step is to invite God into your mind to be your teacher. It will then be only of "improving your knowing" (Paramahansa Yogananda). You will find that in time you are re-formed in the image of God and will repel darkness and pain.

KNOW that you are a good person and that the depression you face is a complete illusion that you got caught up in. Then, go out, face the sun and say **** off to the world who tries to stop you. And finally, share your new found peace with people who will listen. You are Excellent my friend!

There are three fields that need to be covered:
1) Have a job or do something that makes you feel usefull and active
2) Love someone
3) Be loved by someone
It works for me when all 3 are active.
