I wouldn't get too obsessed with worrying about which universities are the best or worst in the country to attend.

What actually matters at the end of the day is the class of degree you obtain and not which university you studied at.

Certainly, going to a university like Oxford or Cambridge has a certain snob appeal, a bit like saying you went to Eton or Harrow. However at the end of the day the degree class you obtain combined with your other academic qualifications and achievements will be the deciding factor which will shape your future career success.

I work as a chartered accountant and when I had my interview with KPMG I asked the interviewer if the university that I had attended would have any bearing on whether I would be offered the job or not. The interviewer told me that KPMG were not at all interested in which university their applicants had attended. All that they were interested in where A Level grades, university degree class, and the personality and life experiences which the individual had to offer.

Many students now choose to study at their local universities in order to be able to live at home and thus to keep their student debts to a minimum. Recent government statistics reveal that 38% of university students now follow this route. Obviously, these individuals have realised that their choice of university will have no bearing on their future careers and they are correct in this assumption.

My advice to you would be to work extremely hard at achieving the best grades you can in your studies while at sixth form level and then later at university because this in the long run will be far more important to you in your future career that your choice of university.

It all depends on your grades and what you want to study

The ivy league schools like Harvard, Notre Dam and others are good.

I do not know many schools that would not make a good choice. Make sure they have what you want to take and some activities you would enjoy. Most campuses will let you visit and see for your self. That would be the way I would go. Make sure to have your college funding ready to go really early in high school, or have your grant or scholorship ready when you go. Ask people in the profession you want to enter what school do you reccomend?

Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Bristol. These are all good universities to go to.
Depends also on what you want to study, as there are loads of universities who have a 'specialist' subject too
