My top 2 choices would be Amsterdam or Brussels. Other good places to spend some time that have a good mix of art/history/museums but also a good nightlife are:
Budapest
Florence
London
Vienna
Tallinn
It partly depends on your budget. Tallinn and Budapest are more affordable than London or Vienna would be. Amsterdam, Brussels, and Florence would be in the middle pricewise.

If you want to go somewhere that isn't Hevaly Commercialized then go to somewhere like Moscow, St.Petersburg, Prauge, Riga, Warsaw, Krakow, Stockholm, Rekjavik, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo.
