The Information Age has always been 'just around the corner" with words, such as "soon", "next year", and "tomorrow" describing when this miraculous use of technologies and networks will change the world for the better. As best as we can tell, the term "Information Age" was coined in the 1960's by AT&T's public relations department, and it is a polyglot phrase that can mean almost anything you can think of.
This term is generally used in order to give an aire of mystique to whatever product of technology is being marketed. It is in keeping with the advertising concept of creating a larger than life contrast. A product that defines an "age," or "era," would certainly have more meaning than "something to go in your closet." Antonym: "Stone Age"

Concord, is still the fastest commercial jet aircraft , however it was scrapped because it was too slow, you don't have to travel ascoss the Atlantic now to be in NY, you just log on, and video conference. The last 200 years of development, has been to make transport faster to enable ideas to move more rapidly - history is about ideas.
The Renaissence happened because of papermaking, reaching europe from the Middle east. Ideas were cheaper to spread.
The Reformation happend because of Gutenberg, inventing printing, it was now cheaper for individuals to have information.
The industurial age happend because papermaking machines allowed newspapers to be made, and thus industury could advertise for the first time.
The elecricial age was about telegraph wires,
The petrol age was about physically travelking to get things first hand.
the plastic age was about mass production and records, records were using bakelite, and the first mass produced home items were transistor radios.
Do you see the pattern, we are an information driven society, and thus a new age starts when another development allows the flow of information to increase. Finally with multi-media, we have reached total information saturation.

It means that all the information is on the tip of your hand through 24/7 news, the internet, phones, and transportation. Before you had to wait for the newspaper for the news or wit for the nightly news. Now all you have to do is go online and find everything you need to know. Thin if this was 20 years ago, it would have taken months to see sadamms hanging. Now the day it happened i saw it on google.

the current stage in societal development which began to emerge at the end of the twentieth century. This period is marked by the increased production, transmission, consumption of and reliance on information. Many consider the new role of information to be changing our social and economic behavior as dramatically as did the Industrial Revolution.
