It has been happening for a few months but I didnt think it was serious. One eye, usually the right but sometimes left goes very red and bloodshot. It doesnt hurt, but I do look a bit scary. Why do you think this is? How can I get rid of it? I tried taking anti inflammatories but t didnt really help, also I would rather take alternative medicine, any ideas?

It's hard to say without more information. If it's also sticky/gunky its probably conjunctivitis, if its itchy its probably allergy related, if you wear contact lenses its probably due to overwear etc, if its solid red (not veiny) its probably a subconjunctival haemorrhage... It could be hundreds of things.

However, if there is no related dishcharge/itching/pain/weeping, the most likely cause is episcleritis, which is inflammation of the top layer of the sclera (white part), causing a red eye with little or no pain, usually sectoral. This is usually nothing to worry about, some people just tend to be more prone to it. If it get severe it can be treated with mild steroidal eye drops (prescribed by your GP).

Either way, you must see an Optometrist- wait til next time it happens, then go see an optician the same day, so they can assess the problem an hopefully diagnose and treat it!

It can be caused by a variety of things. Bloodshot eyes are when the blood vessels (veins) in your eyes become enlarged, this can be because of irritation, infection or other things such as high blood pressure. We can't diagnose over the net - you need to see someone professional to be safest. If you have a proper diagnosis then you can choose an alternative treatment. Good luck!

I know you can get pain on the back of the eyeball because of tight muscles in your neck, but if it would be causing the red I'm not sure. The nerves for your eyes go to the back of your head to the optic center there. The muscles for your neck go to the top of your head for it's movements, right next to those nerves. When the muscles get tight they press into the nerves to make pain on the back of the eyeballs. To get rid of that pain you have to release the muscles in your neck to free them up and here's how to do that: Neck Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

No medicine system but Alternative Systems of medicines can treat and repply this problem.
It is due to excessive heat in your liver. Liver is connected to eyes. Hence eyes become red. Acupuncture treats it.
Avoid spices and minimise salt. Use salads.

Ideally you should find and eliminate the cause. Is it allergies, high blood pressure, drinking alcohol, an infection (pink eye), chemical fumes, cigarette smoke, lack of sleep, dry air, etc., etc.?
You should see a doctor. There's a possibility , that if left unchecked, there could be permanent damage caused to your eye.
