Please don't tell me it was based on Ed Gein,that myth has already been disproved.Did they ever catch the real Leatherface?

Since you seem predisposed to disbelieve any answer that suggests the story is not true, then yes, the story is absolutely true. Leatherface is still out there, having escaped after his maniacal, middle-of-the-highway chainsaw dance, so don't turn out the lights. Bwahahahaha!!!

However, if you are still open to rational argument, you would do well to read the snopes.com article in the link on History Nut's answer. You will see that the movie's plot line is not true, and that Tobe Hooper himself, the writer and director of TCM, said that the story was at least in part based on Ed Gein. This is not a "myth," it is a fact.
