I am 14 and I totally agree with you. I can't stand 50 Cent. I hate all of these rappers. Rarely I like songs like that and even if I do like them I make sure nobody knows about it because I feel ashamed of people knowing what crap I'm into. I have heard what all of us teenagers listen to and I feel like puking non stop!
Thanks for asking this question so I can reveal my feelings towards this kind of music! : )

I know exactly what you mean. I don't see any value in all that pop/jiggle-your-bootie music going on now. It appears that as long as you can do a bump and grind video you are instantly famous now a days.

I am sure my parents thought the same of my music when I was a teen. The sound of David Lee Roth screaming against a backdrop of Eddie Van Halen's squeeling guitar must have been confusing to say the least, not to mention the twisted lyrics of the always nauseating Alice Cooper (no he's not a she--Marilyn Manson is a copycat). Joan Jett--is that a boy or a girl?? *laugh

I think the music that you listen to in your teens sticks with you in your mind as "the best" music. My parents still listen to their Do-Wop tunes, I still listen to Van Halen, Alice and Joan. I guess my 11-year-old daughter will be in her 90s and singing songs with lyrics like "my humps, my humps--my lucious lady lumps" in an Alzheimer’s delerium. Just picture a nursing home full of elderlys doing bootie dances instead of square dancing. AAAAUUUGGGHH!!!! I would prefer a room full of 90-year-old air guitarists to that any day!

Yo...daddio - anyone like a bit of Stockhausen? But seriously, all past generations will always give it loads of 'Aye, that'll never beat the 80's/70's/60's'...or even the thirties.
The mental set-up of your appreciation changes throughout the years...but noticed lately there are bands that try to give it some 70's (soft rock and soul) stylee to get the old tossers (like myself) buy their tunes out of nostalgia..by the way - hope you don't 'diss me, brothers'- I'll be 50 in July.

Poor wee bairn Overload with his self-denial! Tell you what - used to love that weird 'bubblegum' pop of the late sixties (over-sweetened love songs) - but used to tell mates at school Marvin Gaye etc. were the top people...even though at the time thought Motown was horrid!

Im lucky because my daughter listens to decent music, ok I dont get some of the stuff she listens to, like System of a Down, to me its just noise, but we do share a very wide taste in music. I listen to everything from classical, 50s, 60, 70s and 80s. I like a lot of todays bands like the Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park, Gwen Stefani, and a lot of Latin American Salsa stuff. The only music I REALLY cant stand is hardcore rave, garage, club, or whatever crap its called. It drives me crazy!

O I think you mean 50 cents, well you can't really beat the music age unless you just tell them that they can't listen to him anymore, but honestly when my dad gets to not like my music he puts in his own CD's and turn the volume way up, me being a teen I just listen to my music when he isn't home or in my car, but I don't like 50 cents either so, anyway most parents at lease try to see whats interesting about the music not just call it garbage and say its bad without even giving the music a chance to actually sound good to you. but honestly 50 cents suck.

But honestly a lil bit of pink floyd or even more modern like Creed or I personly love AFI and My Chemical Romance and O I can't forget Maralyn Manson, lol but thats stuff you can understand, lol

I'm 19 almost 20

I am 40 YO and I was in a New Romantic band back in the 80's. We did covers of Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, Japan et al. I played the bass guitar and it must have driven my parents nuts hearing that thing booming through the floor boards day and night.

The best music came out of the 70's and 80's as far as I'm concerned. The stuff I hear nowadays is garbage - especially rap.

I totally agree....."back in our time" we could actually understand the lyrics and relate to them. If the band was good, they were here to stay for awhile. Today there are soooo many one-hit wonders. I listen to my stuff in the car a lot, and my daughter actually likes most of it ( even downloaded some on her ipod). LB age 44

Music of the 80s still rules as far as I am concerned. However, I believe we always feel the best music is that around while we are growing up and at our most influential so our parents and kids will feel the same about what's around at their "peak" too...
