Hands down, Neil Peart of Rush. As great as many others have been and are, Neil is the standard by which all rock drummers are measured.

no question, the greatest drummer ever to pick up a stick is ... (drumroll please) neal peart from rush. the bands music sometimes strays too far into the realm of the mythical for my taste, but the musicianship is always right on the mark. duum wise, there is no one finer.
