Any number of interpretations may be applied to the "Godot" in Beckett's play. When I read it, two instantly came to mind: Firstly, Godot serves as an elusive understanding or meaning of the universe. In the face of the absurd, these two men stand waiting, hoping for some reassuring, all-encompasing meaning. And they are left waiting. Secondly, Godot (in a similar sense, I'll grant) may be seen as God himself. The play may ask, "how can we love or believe in a god that never reveals himself to us?" These men answer by waiting and hoping he will come one day.

Great play.

Godot is the god of the 2 trumps, believed by them to save them from their hapless condition of being standbys and nobody to hire them for work. Godot might have promise good future to the two trumps but as some of the attitude of big timers, never fulfilled his promise.

Godot is the meaning, the thing that we search for it in the future to give value to our present. This is the nothingness that is created by acting and existing.
