Book. The movie is not as exciting as the book but the last few harry potter movies have been more exciting and it just gets better, and darker.

While I enjoy the movies, there's no substitute for the level of detail and character that exists in the books. Each film is one director's interpretation of a book. When I read the books, I can make my own interpretations and discuss them with other readers, too.

The books can also exist on their own and be very satisfying. I don't know if the movies would have been able to do that if the books hadn't been written first.

The books are better because they have more detail and thought in them and in the movies they cut some of it out and it doesn't tell you the characters thoughts.
