Define "quiet" are you looking for a small-town feel or someplace where it's not as hectic as where you are now? I'm in LA, eveyplace is more quiet :)
I wouldn't mind living in Taos, New Mexico, or Oregon...someplace where I could have some more open space and maybe a horse...and some sheep...I guess a petting zoo would be more like it...

My favorite cities in the US are Austin, Tx, San Francisco, CA, New York, New York, and Houston, Tx. San Fran is friendly, has great food, but not too quiet. NY is not the most serene of places, but could quite possibly be the greatest city on earth. Austin is a good combination of city life mixed with southern/Texas charm. Houston is my hometown and I love it, but not the top destination for people seeking a quiet life.

If you want "quiet" living then city life wouldn't be recommended.
Seems like country living would be more to your liking.

bangor, maine or white river junction, vermont. great peaceful cities which are very pleasant.

I would say any state south of Virginia. They seem extremly nice and kind.
