The right amount of music not too noisy not too quiet. Really warm, nothing worse than a cold uninviting cafe. Seats that you don't stick to when you sit down, or dig in, ideally those bucket spongy seats. Table at the right height, not too low that you can't reach your food, not too high that you can't see your friend. Elegant white bone china. And of course friendly but unobtrusive service.

When I went to Edinburgh I loved this place, although things I would have changed are the uncomfy seats, and that it seemed to take itself just a little too seriously. But I loved the shabby chic of the place, and the extra touches - silver cake forks, white tablecloths and excellent service
