I believe in tipping for exceptional service and product, it just buggs me to tip for something I have not received yet esp. food and drink. More and more we see "tip jars" in the service industry.
Will the quality suffer if I don't tip prior?

For the last 6 months I have been working at a local bakery, and I find that I hussle and try extra hard to make sure that an order comes out correctly when a customer has yet to tip me. If they tip ahead of time (regardless of if it was high or low), I feel like I don't have to work for it as much...I guess I just don't plan on them sticking their hand in the tip jar to fish out the money they just put in there.

So I would say that you are on the right track: you give someone a tip when they provide exceptional service and products. And that you should do so only after they have been delivered.

I haven't noticed a difference. I'll bet that many don't tip in a tip jar. I sometimes tip prior, but sometimes go back and put my tip in the jar on my way out.

I wouldn't feel obligated to put money in the tip jar. If it's fast food, and you get good service and good food and eat it on location, feel free to put some change in thereon your way out. Or just drop you change in there after ordering in the hope that it will get you better service/food.

I would never tip prior to service, myself being in the industry. And yes to be honest,( weather I like it or not) the service, not necessarly the product, will suffer if you don't tip well.

If you want all those elite unit assignments, why did you (or are you going to) join the Army NG as a 31b? Why didn't you go active Army and then apply for elite schools or even go active directly with an elite option? You certainly are taking a devious course. Joining the infantry would be a more direct course and would give you training for combat.
