just keep in mind the 60-30-10 rule.
60% one color
30% another color
10% a contrastic color
this way you can have it blend (or match ) with what you choose that day.
different looks for different days or occassions

A 3 piece suit is very formal, and yes the "standard" is your tux or suit, white wing tip collor shirt, with a white vest and white tie.
These days there are soooo many awesome looks out there for mens formal wear that the above mentioned style is only worn a fraction of the time, a very small fraction.
Last year at the Tuxedo shop I worked at - I think I rented about 5 3-piece suits with white vest, shirt, tie all year long. Alot of guys prefer a bit more color. Though some very formal affairs still call for the classic!! And it never goes "out" of style.. just gets less popular from time to time =)

There should be a color in the tie that matches a color in your suit material or your shirt. For instance, the suit might have a subtle pinstripe of light blue - use a tie that has a bit of that same light blue and otherwise looks good with your skin tone. The shirt should be white or some color that matches or harmonizes with that color.
If you go to a decent men's store or men's department in a big store, the staff there should be able to do a good job in advising you on your look. You may find that quicker than agonizing over it yourself. That's the route I usually follow and it's worked out well.

i think if you are cute any thing will look great on you weither it matches or not
if you liked a tie just try to make the shirt matches with it and with the trousers at the same time

No. A printed necktie works well on a plain shirt. If you have to wear a plain necktie, be sure its color has no relation whatsoever with your shirt. Like a fuchsia necktie on an aqua shirt, or a golden necktie on a midnight black shirt. If your necktie is printed and multi-coloured, pair it with a shirt whose color is also found in the necktie.

i think it should have one quality (at least one shade of color/stripe/etc) as your shirt and trousers but, mostly
you should use your tie as your "signature piece" and put your
personality in to it to spice up your look.
