I am new to writing, i have an idea for a small play

need just some tips to know how to start, if u have links it wouldnt harm ;)

The finished play should have a cast list first and then the main body. The scenes are usually numbered; it may have acts too if you like. Obviously you should try writing something stageable, and it's easier to sell if it has the smallest number of cast members possible. Really you need good ideas, which are not too way out, it's a balance thing.

I've toyed with the idea of writing a play, but got sidetracked with another book instead. When I was thinking about it I came across these books:

LEW HUNTER'S SCREENWRITING 434 (I would say this is a definite must). It's a Perigee Book which is a division of The Berkeley Publishing Company.

SCREENPLAY: The Foundations of Screenwriting by Syd Field

THE SCREENWRITER'S WORKBOOK also by Syd Field

I realize they're technically not about a theatrical play approach (I'm assuming you're thinking Broadway/Off-Broadway), but it might give you some insight and basic ideas.
