Doing anything will use the computers recourses.
so the answer is - yes
Does it matter - possibly not.
Having stuff - Music or anything else stored will have no affect unless your Hard Drive is getting around 80% full. In which case Windows may not have enough room to "House Manage" things
Press the keys Ctrl Alt and Delete and click Performance to see your computers CPU and Memory usage.
If one or both are high leave the thing alone and let it download in peace.
Also no matter the CPU/Memory usage you really don't want to be burning DVD's while your doing other stuff - such as downloading.
PS - Limewire has a load of spy ware inbuilt. Also the stuff you download may not be what you expect - that is the music file you thought was ligit may just be a load of exploding porn/advertising/ or in fact nothing except a Music Lawyer wanting to bite your bottom. Or worse - your wallet.

Yes, downloading will use up your system resources, especially if you are using just LimeWire and not LimeWire Pro which is designed to use up a lot less memory. I would suggest downloading LimeWire Pro which is free.
Your computer's performance will not be affected by the number of songs you have on your computer unless you are using up a significant amount of space on your hard drive. I would suggest getting an external hard drive. Good ones run at about $100.

It definitely uses memory to run these programs. More importantly though, p2p files are riddled with viruses. Check your CPU usage, if you feel your computer is running slowly, make sure there are not a bunch of strange programs running. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to see all of this information.
Download Lime Wire Pro, it uses less processing power as the regular.
Also, the songs are located in storage devices, not memory. Provided you don't use some sort of sequential access storage device, like a tape drive, which is incredibly unlikely, this should not affect your computers performance. Install some anti virus software, and don't download anything sketchy via p2p or junk mail in the mean time and you should be set.

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C
First open CCleaner
Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.
To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:
Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.
Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.
afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.
The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.
If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)
The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).
Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.
Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.
