mind if a newbie or wannbe shows up at a Goth club or event? I have friends who dress up Goth once in a while and just go party but they seem very differnent from the few goths I know who "live it" 24/7. I've been tempted to dress up because I like the clothes, but it almost seems like an infringement. I'm taking it too seriously I suppose...

To be honest, the elder-goths (those who've been in the scene for decades) will ignore you, and long time goths (like myself) might make fun of you behind your back. But as long as you look the part and know the music, you're cool with us. Everyone starts out as a babybat, and we all know that. Just don't say anything stupid like "Why don't they play some Marilyn Manson" and you'll probably make some friends. Although the gothic subculture has a hierarchy, goths are happy to share their passions with others. In short, go out with your friends to the goth club and have a good time.
