If it's more than you already have, then yes. But, by today's standards, 256mb is not an awful lot of memory.

First clean up your disk of all junk files and any unused programs. Then depending on what type of computer you have and how old it is, you would get some speed increase with extra memory if you really need it. Look in Task Manager to see how much of your processor is being used.If it is consistently in the 60/75% range, find out why. You may be loading stuff at start up that you don't need. I use a speed test site to test upload and download speed and I did gain speed when I added memory, but really not enough to make that much difference except when I am doing graphics with my photo program.

256MB would make it faster, but in the long run it is better to spend more and get 512MB, or even better 1GB. Your computer will have limited memory slots, so it is best to go for larger quantity's.

Also, they have to be fast! It is better to get CAS2 then CAS3 for example - 256MB of CAS2 can be better than 512MB of CAS3 or CAS4!!

(Confused? Sorry, but it is hard to explain simply!)
