I have been running Avast Home edition (free) on 2 desktops and laptop all running at about 1.5 and 500 MB -1 gig ram for the last 2 years along with Zone Alarm Personal Firewall (free). No conflicts, no viruses, no hacks, no overly horrible lag.
Norton cost me almost $100 then let in viruses that cost me weeks of re-installs, re-formatting and poor customer service.
When I phone a # that says English/Canada, I expect the person to speak English.
Avast has a lot of options for personal choices on what is running and what is not. It is simple enough for most users to configure. It has caught the website/pop up nasties numerous times and monitors your temp files.
I tried Avg and have a few friends that like it (They still get nailed) but I did not like the interface, options or accuracy.
Plus, Avast has a cool voice info/pop up that kicks the little You've Got Mail guys butt.

I suggest that, better, you adopt a system restore operation. It is safe and the problems can be rectified. You have to carefully select the date of restore. Ensure that the PC was functioning normally on the selected date for restoration. If you want to know an effective procedure for system restore please visit the following site.

Delete all temp internet files includuing off line content, delete all temp files . Go to add/remove progras and delete all programs that are not required. (These can be done in many ways including disc clean up option) Then defrg the PC.

I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL fool you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

Norton isn't as stable as McAfee. it truly is a certainty. in case you may not pay for anti-virus, merely use a close-by library's laptop. Normaly, they're going to provide help to apply a working laptop or laptop for a volume of time.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
