I live below the noisiest couple in Newcastle - when should i let them know that they are causing me distress?

I also sent them a christams card and didnt get one in return!

let them no now why let them get away with it go down an ask them to keep the noise down after a certain time and if they dont write down times when they are excessivly loud then take it to police who will be able to deal with it or wait till they stop making noise and put your music on full blast so they get no peace

had the same problem. let them know asap that they are causing you distress.and make them well AWARE you are not going to take their S**T. if the problem still persists then take action to get them an ASBO, as noise pollution is not acceptable, especially if you can't enjoy a peaceful night in at home.
i would not bother about the Xmas card, just don't give them one next Xmas. even if they give you one.
as for getting them back, put your hoover on in a room that has tiles, laminate etc on the floor, put music on in another room and your TV on. TV and music to be quite loud but NOT TOO LOUD you don't want them to complain about your noise. then once all on leave the house for a few hours and let them get on with it. BE SURE YOU DO THIS WHEN THEY HAVE THEIR QUIET PERIOD IN THE DAY. DO THIS A FEW TIMES AND SEE THE SMOKE FLOW FROM THEIR EARS.

I really feel for you . I used to live above the neighbours from hell , i was totally miserable and near breaking point .. i hated them so much , i just had to move nothing could have kept me in that house i was scunnered .. Thankfully we moved house last year (Feb 06) and i have been so happy in my new home .
Have a word with them if they are approachable , if not get the council involved if its council tenants , if they are private you maybe need to inform environmental health due to noise pollution ..
P.S Don`t send a xmas card this year .. I would do things like send chinese meals and order taxis for them lol and that would get their back up .. ( obviously anonymously)

* Purchase a air horn... they come canned with aresol...sports fans uses them here's a link about them .They are super loud! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/air_horn... <---- wait till they go to bed and then let this rip !
* Broom on the ceiling works too ... but wait till they go to bed to apply it at random.
* Buy a extra loud alarm clock ( if the walls are really thin) set off for 4 am. Radio shack has one that goes up to 110 decibles !
* Do you have clothing dryer in your apartment ??? if you do fill it with your heaviest shoes / boots then set on air dry and let them hear the tumbling sound.
* Buy a phone ringer! it's this little plastic thing hooks up to your phone...it's to make the ring extra loud for nearly deaf people. Buy it and hook up your regular phone ...then at night call that line with your cell over and over . I have one of these ringers it is SO LOUD INCREDIBLE here's the one I bought was only like $6.00

* Got a friend with several large loud barking dogs ??? tape those dogs going crazy and play the tape on your home system LOUD . If not here's a security device that uses recorded barking dog noise http://www.x10.com/security/x10_dk9000.h...
* You could also buy that jingle dogs cd ( it's dogs barking xmas songs) and play it loudly for the neibors.
* Lastly I know you said you didn't want anything illlegal but for a one time only event here goes. This is an apartment right ? You have access to their stair case right? Well buy a pepper spray grenade and set it off in the hall then ring there bell so they come out a get wiff.

this is my advice and start the conversation like this.
"there is only one way to say this......can you here my tv because the noise that you make i have to turn it up, can we come to some sort of compromise"
wait for a positive response, if not walk away and say well i did ask.
then the next time there is noise knock the door "you know what we talked about" walk away.
keep repeating 2-3 times then get the council to send him a letter.

Put a note through their door saying politely that they are being really load. If they carry on with the noise then knock on the door and ask them politely to keep it down. If they cant have the respect to do that then I'd ring the police.

I used to live abpve this guy who used to come in at 4 am and play the guitar and sing and play Shite music LOUD . So as it was xmas I waited to the little bugger to go back to work and everynight Id play my music as loud as possible and bang the floor . This lasted about 2 days until he cam and knocked my door begging me to stop . I explained why I did it and i never heard another peep out of him !

I had this problem with some of my old nieghbours all you need to do is break into there flat on a regular basis making sure of course that they are out and then trash the god dam place they will soon move you will see.

stage somthing in or around your flat like what sounds to be a murder or a drug smuggling event i dont know you think. get them to call the police kick down your door, and then when they realsie your neighbours made it all up as theres no proof and only say so they will have a bad reputation. Spread rumorous about them in the local shop, lol

They don't sound too sociable to me.
I'd be careful what you say, afterall they do live over you,and life could get a lot worse.

Unless it gets to the stage that it's really un-bearable, I'd keep stoom.
