the UK is a constitutional monachy although it does not have a written constitution (the magna carta has nothing to do with it)
there are two houses, the house of commons who are elected and the house of lords who are not. the house of commons debats and passes laws but for them to become law the house of lords must ratify them.
the electoral system if first pass the post, there are three main parties, labour (currently in power) conservative and liberal democrats. who ever leads the party which has the majority of seats in the house of commons is prime minister and he appionts his cabinet ministers there after.

The UK does not have a constitution, that is what makes Americans so proud of their achievement in creating their democracy. The UK is ruled by law and by the two houses of parliament, whose members are elected to decide rulings on the public's behalf. The UK is still essentially a Monarchy. The armed forces are allowed to take control at any time, on behalf of the monarchy. The population of the UK do not have such things as freedom of speech, or the right of assembly, or the right to silence in a court of law.

This link sets it all out simply and succinctly. The alternative is reading a long, dry book on British Constitutional Law. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:x-Jtl3Q6mKIJ:www.thinkhistory.btinternet.co.uk/britishconstitution.htm+british+constitution&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=5
