Hi,

Though I have not been to Sawanadurga. However information gathered based on log and photos it doesnot appear that you need trekking equipments to climb it. Though if you are interested in rock climbing then certainly you will need to have proper gear.

Some suggestions - take a strong stick, water bottle in back back, some sandwitches, one rope, torch, match box, newspaper with you.

Take the magadi road u will reach T.G.Halli reservoir in some thirty kms. From there Sawandurga is about 20kms. U can already see the durga(hill fort) from T.G.Halli reservoir. At the base of the hill there is Ugra Narasimha temple. The hill is basically one huge piece of rock as u can see here. We actually boarded a bus to T.G.Hali and took short cut to the hill. We are walking towards the hill here which can be seen in the backdrop. This is the only piece of sculpture to see after a tiring 3 hour trek.
Here are other photographs with my nephew, his friends and my sis-in-law. These were taken on a trip to Sawandurga arranged by the HAM club, of which my brother is an asset.
