Uh, I have been a statistician. What would you like for me to prove, and what is it worth to me.

Statistics are often misrepresented to sell a particular point.

Statistics can be so valuable, but are frequently flawed due to sampling or analytical errors, or sampling bias.

So I sort of agree with you, unless the people who are given the statistics have access to the data and evaluation methodology, AND, have the ability to comprehend and analyse the study.

If it is in a news article, or even a professional journal, I suspect them, unless there is full disclosure. Someone paid good money to get and distribute those statistics, and they are usually looking for some return on their investment.

Some statistics are vital, but the others are made up.

no.........i love statistics........numbers are my life........while some people misuse it in the economic world just to make money, other people use it for good........and it can be very entertaining......

some statistics are always accurate and never flawed..........Roger Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961.........that will always be true.........baseball is a game of numbers........and i love it........

No, this would increase America's welfare budget unnecessarily.

What they need is to get themselves a goddam job like all the other mathematical constructs.

If people are stupid enough to be swayed by one set of statistics, there isn't much hope for them :)
