When I went to highschool we had a new student one year whose name was Jesus (pronounce Hay-soose). Now we didn't have any real exposure to anyone of Spanish culture, so it was an entirely new thing to most of the people in my school to realize that there were people who actually had this name, but pronounced differently. Of course, being the stupid kids that we were the poor boy got teased a lot, but he seemed pretty cool and unaffected by it for the most part. He must have been used to it by then! Poor guy!

There are lots of people who are named Jesus especially with cultures that are quite based on catholicism. The tradition is that when a boy is born near or on Christmas day, the name would then include Jesus or a version of it like Noel or Emmanuel.

I've known several Hispanics named Jesus, but it's pronounced Hay-soos in Spanish. Right now I don't know anyone named Jesus, but there is a boy at my daughter's school named God, I'm not kidding.
