This is true art. If this has just happened to you...congratulations. It is truly a wonderful feeling to let your mind go and let your emotions take over.
When I write music, I almost go into a trance. It is not until the next morning that I listen back to what I have done to actually hear because everything is so emotionally charged I feel like I am not in control of what is happening.
The best art, be it music, painting, performance or whatever comes this way. True art comes from the soul, not the head.
Have fun with your new found passion.

I don't write a whole lot of poetry - maybe 1-4 poems a YEAR.
But when I do, they kind of write themselves.
I've quite literally had the experience of feeling a compulsion from an unknown source telling me to grab a pen and paper, without having any idea what for, and when I do, the poem comes out as one complete entity, as if I'd been mulling over it in my mind for a while until I had the whole thing ready to write down. But the thing is, it's often not a topic or theme I was remotely thinking about at all, any time recently. It just comes out onto the paper, and then it's done.
P.S. Rarely if ever have I been able to milk out a second poem if I tried, in those moments. LOL

If you are writing this you truly are a real artist! Happens to me in whatever art you mentionned above( I do them all) and I kinda go into a transe...My body and my mind become an "intrument" of god's expression and it comes with the greatest of ease! My best paintings or dance moves or songs or anything artistic I do come through that exact way...I always say that the Universe does it through me, cause I let it . Same way I was able to write this answer in a very fluent way without having to think about a word I would write down. Cool sh!t hun!!!

Yes, sometimes.
I wouldn't call it "possessed," but there is a heightened awareness, a feeling of natural and unforced mastery; a free and perfect stream of my thoughts onto the page, or of the music in my head straight out of my fingers, in a way that transcends simple consciousness.
I just call it "flow."

Yes. A musical line comes from within and creates a feeling. Then I write another that validates that feeling, put them together and I have a snipet of a song. It's like a miracle. Where does it come from? Who creates it? Amazing.

Yes, definately! There have been times when I'll wake up in the wee hours of the morning with an idea that just....came to me, and I have to get it down on paper right away. That's how I came up with the logo for my business. Gotta let the creative juices flow when and where they will.

Yes, when 9-11 happened I did alot of portraits and the Twin Towers with Jesus, I donated alot of my artwork for those charities on Ebay to help others, I just could not stop my artwork until the auctions were over, and I still sometimes have to sit down and create. :)

Yes! Sometimes I can write a poem or essay without even thinking or draw something and then awed by the fact that it was me who did it.
