He was a good guy.
I think he taught the world tons about animals and Oz. He kept saying it was his life's work. The saddest for me is remembering once when he talked about his kids and their work with the zoo. He said that his father taught him all he knew. He will teach his kids. He said something like one day he will pass that football that is animal conservation on to his kids and stand aside and let them run with it. It is sad that they are going with it so young and without him.
I miss him tons. The memorial has been replay on tv all week. I can not look at it. I could not look at the memorial at Australia Zoo either.
I think the best memory of him I have is when he came to the Shed Aquarium here in Chicago. The barramundi was ill with cancer and needed to have the growth taken off. He said something like the barramundi was found off the coast if Queensland and Australia Zoo was near Queensland. He said something about mateship and taking care of your mates. I was in Australia for the first time in October and saw this mateship he taught about. It is huge there. People are so kind/friendly to each other-even complete strangers. It was cute that he had this with a fish. Bubba died of cancer about a week before Steve Irwin died.
He taught other stuff too. It was interesting to hear him tell about Japan trying to invade Australia from the north and east. I think every American that saw the shows regularly has some idea about the lyrics to Advance Australia Fair since it was played every Australia Day on both shows. It is nice how he was so proud of his country. I learned more from his shows and such than I did in school.
I learned Aussie slang too. The best was not to say fanny pack but bum bag. That is very important vocabulary for a tourist! I was sure not to bring Fannie Mae Candy to the people I was visiting.
I feel like a student that has lost their favorite teacher.
I agree with you KittyTitan.

No, the tear jerker is his interviews of how he only wanted to save endangered animals of the planet, to show everyone the wonders of nature, and that it is HIS JOB in life to make everyone aware of the Earth's beauty, he did a special on snakes once, right here in NY (where I live) I had no Idea we had snakes that big in upstate NY. Some people here talk about what he did with his kid (bringing him into the croc pit) and how it was dangerous for the child. I say thats how those "NUTTY Ozzie's live, they jump over croc's as kids when they cross a creek there, it's part of their environment, Americans LOVE people from Australia, they're NUTTY, FUNNY, know how to enjoy life, and are very similar in culture to us, and like to have fun. A wonderful place, and a great guy will be missed !

I used to ... but knowing that there isn't going to be anymore of his super-hyped "crikey" doco's ... I feel much better.
To each his own ... I personally couldn't stand the "larger than life" buzz about the guy .... but he did a lot for conservation and the environment so he will be missed by many.
Don't cry for him ... he lived life at a million miles an hour it just all caught up with him

I don't cry, but i do feel very sad and abit empty. I liked his show, thought him funny. But he lived his life to the fullest. He was a proud Aussie and yeah loved his family a whole lot.

No, I do not cry. His early demise was very sad; but it is best to remember the good times and all that he did to educate us about the animals.
And besides that; we have re-runs! :-)
