I have seen this before, and I'm not sure this is your problem. Do you have a broke motor support? The engine could be moving around when you push the clutch down, causing the idle speed to flare up. Check you vacuum brake booster, and any other area that could be loosing vacuum. Usually an engine that revs up for no reason, is somehow in direct relation to a vacuum leak. Check all hoses where they plug on to see if they are split, broke, or just no good. Remove the hose from the brake booster, plug it off, and see if that resolves the issue. Check the hose that goes to the PVC valve too. Physically see what is being moved along with the brake cable. Have someone work the clutch while you look to see what is moving with it. Up under the dash look for a switch with a vacuum hose that goes to it. See if it somehow moves when you work the clutch pedal.
Glad to help you, Good Luck!!!

I'll tell you what a clutch is...the pedal that you push in the car actuallt releases the clutch. When you take the foot off the pedal you are engaging the clutch (or activating it). the clutch when engaged holds together the pressure plates. these are the two plates that when together, "clutched" drive the gears in the transmission of energy to the wheels. The clutch presses the top one onto the bottom one and the transmission of motion is in place. Sometimes when you put in the clutch pedal releasing the clutch and separating the pressure plates problems can occur. sometimes they happen when you put it in, engaging it. The pressure plates need to fit together tightly and if the clutch is slack you need to have it adjusted, or maybe the friction material on the plates has worn down and they can sometimes be replaced.

If this clutch is a cable ,check the cable has not popped out of it`s retaining clip`s as if it is hanging loose or it has been routed wrong along side the accelerator pedal, it could be lifting the accelerator cable when you press the clutch . get some one to sit in the car and operate the pedal while you check under the bonnet you will be able to see the cable moving if it is loose .

the Volkswagen golf later models suffer from the pedal boxes braking ( the casing holding the pedals ) do you notice the clutch pedal being lower some times?, if its not this and its a later model it may not have a throttle cable and be electronic, in which case that will be your problem, if not please check that your throttle cable has not tangled with your clutch cable hence pulling on throttle when clutch is pressed,, good luck

So many answers....but none seem correct. Maybe a few close. You probably have a vaccum leak. Probably a large one. When air is drawn in from a vaccum leak on a fuel injected vehicle, the extra oxygen burns and the engine idle goes way up. Look at all of your vaccum lines and connections. Good luck.

Not certain how your accelerator is connected to the throttle valve but mine was by a cable with a little ball joint where it met the throttle arm. This dried out and would not free properly - a drop of oil and a wiggle about solved the problem!

It's out of adjustment or worn.
You should have at least a 1/2" of free play on the pedal before you start to feel resistance in the pedal. If not, it needs adjusting, soon.

your throttle body is clogged up and needs cleaning and the water temperature sensor (four pinned one with the green plug in it) is faulty and needs replacing. probably got a vacuum leak somewhere and will need repairing and then you need to take it to a vw or audi dealership and have the basic settings and throttle adaptions reset. Good luck!

in case you probably did not attempt to initiate the engine, then the gasoline equipment would not desire cleansing, in easy terms the tank must be drained. in case you even positioned the foremost into the "ON" place and it kicked in the gasoline pump then the equipment as much as the gasoline rail must be wiped sparkling. in case you tried to initiate it, then each and every thing desires cleansing.

well if its fuel injected you should check your mass air flow sensor or your throttle position sensor but if its carbureted check your choke
