No I do not think its too late if you dont have any serious health problems. To be confident and be on the safe side, you can ask your doctor if you dont have any serious health problems. If you dont Im actually sure that you will improve your fitness and muscles a lot. Yes very young men in general develop faster fitness results, but you Can still build strong muscles and be more fit at your age. When you begin trainning your body ask the gym instructor or other professional to teach you, safety is important.
I know a 40-something year old guy who likes trainning at the gym, yeah and he seems to be quite fit.
Honestly I dont think 40 year olds are thaaat old lol =)
OK good luck.

and P.S Dont use steroids or any other harmful stuff.
The only safe thing I know is whey protein, but you can ask from people who know about healthy supplements.

No, you can develop muscle and tone at any age. However, you will find some things - like getting a ripped set of abs - much more difficult, because your body will be less inclined to burn off the layer of fat that naturally covers the abs. Get a personal trainer to design a program that fits your body type (there are three basic types) and also works for your age group.

anybody that says you're too old to start does not know whats going on

21, 41, 51- It doesn't matter! your keeping it shape!. Know your limit, dont overdue yourself and your fine. (the same thing i would say for any 20 year old still we behind the ears!)

My father still goes to the gym to get those muscles bulky and he's always bragging and showing off his guns.

He got an x-ray of his neck and the doctor said he couldn't believe it- he had the neck bones of a 25 year old man. And the Dr. said its the weight training to blame.

Work out, get in shape, you'll feel better about yourself, you'll be more confident, and you'll live healthier

good luck

Eh, you're going through midlife pops.

It is not bad for you. Stick to a routine and get back in shape then take it from there. Staying healthy is an excellent idea.
