overpopulation occurs when the resourses that your country produces cannot support the volume of people that live in the country.
It affects your country as all your resourses become depleted quicker, causing prices to rise and your standard of living becomes lower.

Overpopulation is the idea that we have too many people. The precise definition and standard varies depending on who you're talking to.
For example, environmentalists might rue 300 million people in the US because that's 600 million boots trampling down forrest lands and 100 million cars and SUV's stinking up the air.
Economists, however, consider 300 million too small to matter, considering China and India are getting along quite well with 3-4 times more living in smaller land areas, Japan and the Philippines have extremely dense population centers (such as Tondo near Manila) and people survive, though living conditions vary.
150 years ago, experts were saying that overpopulation automatically leads to war, famine, disease and other things that naturally trim down the population to something that the world can bear, but the world's population has grown considerably since then and many areas are living in peace (like the entire North American continent).
In retrospect, the experts back then were wrong, and they might be wrong now. We'll not know for another 100 years or so.

overpopulation is overhyped. The definition of over population is when the earth can not provide enough resorce for the about of people allive.
However for ever new person there is a new mind, which mean when there are more people, there are more ideas on how to increase farming technology and medical technology. At one point, it was thought that this planet was incapable of sustaining 1 billion people, but after plows, irrigation, tracters, geneticly modified foods, we find ourselves living in a world with 6.5 billion people.
Mass epidemics, starvation, and wars are all signs that we are currently overpopulated, and compaired to other points in history, we are in GREAT shape.

Overpopulation can cause many problems, from no jobs to major health issues. All the people have to eat and if there isn't enough food to go around just think what that would cause. Not enough houses,it goes on and on.Our country is cool for now"if your American".WE have plenty of everything for many years. So just enjoy and be thankful that we are such a great nation.

In olden days when no "family planning" namely, planning how many children to bear per couple, was not known, people used to have more number of children... particularly in countries where girls get married very early in life, the number of children were in double digits in every family.. Now even in those countries the situation has reversed...
The question of optimal population is usually not defined.. particuarly with reference to the resources available to support the number of people in a country, as some of the answers have suggested... In contries that have not properly exploited the available resources, even a lesser population could be a burden...
The economic depression of the 1930s had a telling effect on poor countries particularly those under colonial rule, as there was no planned development for economic uplift of the people. (though the infra built up to support the commercial ventures of the colonial rulers helped the trade sector of the locals as well, after they got political freedom).
Even then (famines of 30's) the essential commodities were not in deficit as per critics, but the fact was that majority of people were so poor that they could not purchase the essentials...
Over population is a very loose term to refer to the situaions, with ref to the number of people per sq mile /km without any reference to the potential of the natural endowments to support them.. It is often relative - to other countries - and often referred to the postion in the developing world...
The new (native) govts that took over after the colonial rulers left the country, had to mobilise resources to develop the basic amenities, education, employment and all.. They needed lot of support to start from scrap and by that time the problems of poverty and unemployment aggravated... Though an excess population was sought to be cited as a reason for all this, the fact was the mutual exploitation of human race... from across their self defined territories... the mighty exploiting the rich but militarily weak or divided countries...
All the poor countries are getting (will eventually become) self sustaining and all talk of over or under population would fade... Population will never explode... there are natural checks and balances in operation in each community... It is too big a subject to be discussed in this column particularly to dispell all the wrong theories already floated by "experts" with political bias...

You have 85 million people. 6 years ago it was 80 million. The main problem is that there are not enough jobs for all of them. Your buguk president is happy that 9 million Filipinos are somewhere else making money to send to their families. you can't make more jobs by a government decree. Then the Government has to pay out of taxes. You have to have PRIVATE companies making money and paying off their employees.
What else is wrong... Teachers (qualified teachers) should teach, not sell goodies and run the local polls.
I have many othersuggestions, but don't want to get a heart attack giving them.
Peace, and Happy New Year.

Society has lost its ethical compass because of the fact (generalisation right here) it now no longer believes in absolutes. reality is seen as relative. overlook faith for a 2d together as I recommend that there is a ethical Absolute and if society have been as quickly as extra to instruct to Him for ethical coaching it would detect a purpose in life somewhat of sinking into self-unfavourable hedonism. Please word that this would't be 'purely a concept'. the two it incredibly is quite incorrect (and we are only an organised load of atoms) or it incredibly is quite maximum appropriate (wherein case we are inherently powerful and there's a answer available for our issues). the respond to this question does count and it incredibly is desperately unhappy to ensure human beings flying off this mortal coil into (what style of?) eternity with out ever having heavily seen the main severe question in life.

Over population is where there are too many people living in the one area, this happens in the UK as we just take in anyone that wants to come and live here.
