Pros for the 360:
- Is easily available in stores and is affordable.
- Has a great range of games. Since it is already on the market in great numbers, and easily available, it is a great platform for game publishers to make games for it. So you will currently see a lot more games coming out for the 360 than the PS3.
- It has a great online experience. If you're an Xbox Live Gold member, you can play online against thousands of other gamers around the world. I have never seen anything more easier than matchmaking on the Xbox.
- The graphics are virtually the same on PS3 and Xbox as long as you have a Standard TV or a reasonable HD TV. If you have an early HD TV that is only able to do 1080i, then the PS3 will only show graphics like on a Standard TV.
- You can download game demos and small casual games from the Marketplace. Furthermore, are there Videos, TV Shows and full movies available. Some of them in High Definition (just like on HD DVDs or BlueRay Discs).
- It has Dead Rising.

Cons for the Xbox 360:
- Xbox Live Gold Membership costs money.
- The DVD drive is louder than the PS3.

Pros for the PS3:
- Has Final Fantasy
- Is more silent than the Xbox.
- Plays older PS1 and PS2 games.

Cons:
- Costs an arm and a leg and is sold out almost everywhere.
- Most games are the same as games on the Xbox 360.
- You need an expensive HD TV to fully utilize the graphics of the PS3.
- It is not yet decided if Blue Ray is better than HD DVD. Consumers like HD DVD currently better, since it allows the user to make a copy of a film for their portable devices for example. HD DVD also has slightly better Image quality.
Furthermore stores will hate to have three times the shelf space for one movie (on DVD, on BlueRay, and HD DVD). So in the long run, one format will die (like Betamax vs. VHS). If it is Blue Ray that bites the dust, you have a $600 paperweight.
If Blue Ray Wins, Microsoft can make an external BlueRay drive and you can connect that to the Xbox and watch BlueRay movies.

So all in all: If you need a new console right now, get an Xbox.
