Ethyl acetate ,Acetonitrile, and acetone are the most common organic solvents for nail polish. They are all very diluted.
What is the difference? These are the chemicals that keep the nail polish wet inside the nail polish bottles.
When exposed to air, they will dry out, leaving the nail polish (paint) on your nails.
Acetone dries out the fastest, therefore, as a nail polish product they are not very reliable and the shelf life is short. In short, the cheap nail polish have acetone bases.
The more expensive ones have a longer shelf life and can stay in your dresser for more than a year or so, or until you use up the bottle.
Nail polish remover is simply the solvent for the paint. Usually they are acetone based since that is cheaper

One contains acetone and the other doesn't. Removers with acetone work extremely well and quickly, but they make your nails dry. If one has dry or brittle nails, acetone is very bad for them. General rule of thumb is that non-acetone nailpolish removers should be used for regular polish removal from nails.

However, acetone nailpolish removers do an excellent job of removing the toughest kinds of polish and false nails. For example, nailpolish that contains glitter can be extremely difficult to remove, so remover with acetone is ideal in this case.

Basically if you have acrylic nail do not use an acetone base. It breaks down the acrylic leaving you with weak nails you just paid for. It can also loosen the entire fake nail allowing water to get underneath that can cause a whole lot of other problem including fungus.
