I hear a ton of people nowadays say how much they love Pink Floyd, that I've actually quite listening to them. I hate being like everybody else.

What local music? It's crap. I grew up with the Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who, all of that. Kids nowadays don't really appreciate the music. They can't understand it what meant to be around back then.

So we weren't around back then. Did we have a choice?

To answer you, Pink Floyd has become more cliche. There's a lot more kids that scream "WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION" in my ear at school than people singing about deaf, dumb, and blind kids.

Some kids *do* actually like Pink Floyd. I'm fourteen, and I know about a lot of things that they have done. I don't like Dark Side of the Moon that much, and Another Brick in the Wall (all of them) are kind of irritating after a while. I much prefer Meddle's smooth sounds, especially Pillow of Winds. I like some of the Syd-aged stuff, like Arnold Layne, Astronomy Domine, and See Emily Play. Wish You Were here had jewels in the title song and in Welcome to the Machine. Even the Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason weren't that bad. (Okay, really, they kind of sucked. They were much better played live with a nice light show). I know more lyrics to so many songs of Pink Floyd's that I beat out my dad, who's been a fan since Animals came out and he first listened to Sheep. I guess it's hereditary.

I've read the book Inside Out cover to cover several times, and I have to say that Nick has a great sense of humor. Who ever knew what was behind that drummer?

I'm one of the hordes. So hate me. But I'm one of the actual fans that knows more than just a handful of songs.

If you love Pink Floyd, keep listening to them. If you want to be avante-garde still, bring up the topic of Several Species of Small Furry Animals in a Cave Grooving with a Pict next time someone says that they're a Floyd fan. Or, ask them if they think that the Syd era was better than the David era. (Syd has this one.)

If you want to quit listening to your favorite bands just because everyone else listens to them too, then you really aren't much of a fan, are you?

I agree with you to some extent. I hate it when someone says they "love" Pink Floyd and they have never heard a song by them outside of The Wall, Dark Side or Wish you were here. Next time someone says they love Pink Floyd, ask them to name a song of an album other than the beforementioned ones. Then chuckle to yourself while they sit there and tell you how they "love them all."
Regardless, music as great as Floyd's and The Who's should not be cast aside as to not conform. They are timeless peices of art that apparently no one out there now can rival. There is nothing wrong with liking a band everyone else likes, even if they you can't stand the other people who like them.

It's not about being like everybody else or not being like everybody else. Pink Floyd made great music, The Who made great music, and people are going to like bands that make great music. I think it's a problem when people like bands simply because the idea of them being popular is put out, but in the case of classics this is clearly not the case. If you really want to not be like everybody else, get into the local music scene and stop listening to music that have had exposure.

I hate being like everybody else also, But the thing is if you like a certain band, You should listen to them, Because if everyone is listening to said band for popularity, Then that will soon pass onto another band, And so on.

Preaching individuality is cliche...Just be you and stop ragging on people. And for the record I love both bands. I have my own favorites from each band and they're not nessesarily the same ones "everybody" likes.
