They dont, surfers dont want to lie on the zip as it digs in so its more common to have them on the back however there are wetsuits with front zippers.

The back of a body is a fairly straight part of the torso. The front has various lumps and bumps to get over etc. This makes the zip and thus the suit less likely to fit snugly at the front. It will do so at the back.

It's because we have delicate parts in front and usually when we wear wetsuits we don't wear anything inside so the delicate parts are exposed... you don't wanna hurt or get caught while zipping your suit... ^^,

you could have a very nasty accident if the zip was on the front ;o)
but i expect the real reason was that it was designed by a man.:o)

W3etsuits are readily available with front and even side fastenings. Just go to a decent marine supplies shop.

It helps you do a better transition if your a Triathlete. You can exit the water and get ready for the bike leg of the triathlon.
It also helps other water sport activities.
Hope this helps

It would dig in your stomach when you paddle out while surfing or body boarding, so to have it at the back will keep it more comfortable.
