So after all the answers from my other questions about my mice i took them apart yesterday. While i was cleaning out the cage today i put them together one bit the other and drew blood i immediatley took them apart, the mouse that bit the other is the only one causing problems, the mouse that got bit never fights with the other mouse and runs from him when he is bitten should i take my dominant mouse back to the petstore ? i have a fourteen day return on him and ive only had him for a week. and should i get another one because the ONLY reason i even got two is so they could play together i do not want two seperate mice that is just pointless. They are Both Male. and i dont want to take them both back i love my mice and i dont want to take them both back and get females. I heard females are dominant also. I just dont know what to do.. any suggestions. No dumb answers please.

oh yes. both are males. sometimes this will happen with two males. i have two male rats and man can they go at it! i have never seen blood before. mostly they just wrestle like dogs do. i know you probably don't want babies but I'm thinking that having a female in with the males would help. you will probably just have to keep them separated though. or you could try a bigger cage?

oh also try a fun litter!! this will draw their attention to the interesting surroundings. do you have a paper shredder? get one and shred some paper for their bedding. they will love it. try different foods too like cooked egg, apples, and other foods that will get them interested. this should help too!

You will have some fighting putting them together in most cases. Sometimes if they are litter mates they will live peacefully, but they usually need their own cage by the time they are 4 months old. It is a territorial thing. Females do the same thing. You may find two passive males who will live together, but that could take lots of time. Also, they don't need company and do just fine without another mouse in their cage. Most people think that they live in colonies in the wild, so they must need more mice to be happy. In the wild that colony would have miles of territory and each mouse would have his or her own nest. As long as you don't completely ignore them, they are happy with just your company.

If the dominant male does this all the time, take him back because he wont stop until he maims the other mice. And your submissive mice will have a sad and sorry life to live.
How about two female mice instead? Maybe they will be able to coexist better than the 2 males.

Why not get a male and a female? That's the natural thing to do. Two males fight for dominance and the attention of the female in most species and in humans. According to homosexuals the two males should ... nevermind.
It sounded like you literally took them apart instead of separated them!

first of all females put together live more harmoniously than males. males can live together sometimes. usually if they've been raised together. but they do get pretty dominant. i say seperate them or return them and get two females.

Put up a barrier in the cage to seperate them, I've seen clear plastic ones......then maybe get them each a female and see what happens...
