What attracts me to other people is more likely not the same that attracts you to other people.

May be we like something similar between us, which shows compatibility. On the other hand, maybe we like something different or opposite, which serves to complement us.

Maybe the reasons are too deep and too subconscious to really understand. If you constantly date one-eyed pirates, does this make you a one-eyed priate, or maybe a person who craves wild, half-blind adventure. If you desire boring clerical workers who were the same grey suit to work every day, perhaps you are actually craving stability and normalcy in a hectic life.

Some folks say we subconsciously marry our mother or our father or a some weird combination of both.

I'm assuming you mean opposite sex. It's a biological instinct in order to survive as a species by procreation. Animals have the same instinct. It's what keeps every animal on earth from going into extinction.
For humans, this 'instinct' has manifested itself in a more complex way because humans are by far the most intelligent species. So the interactions and "mating" rituals of humans have evolved with society over time. I guess that's the best I can explain it.

That depends on what kind of people (their character/morals or lack of) and what kind of attraction.
We look for something in the other which makes us feel complete. If we are not complete and whole in Jesus Christ it can be a search that is self-destructive. Certainly there's more than one type of unhealthy attraction whether you are heterosexual or not. Any relationship outside heterosexual isn't a normal attraction. Some women flock after guys like Scott Peterson or serial killers like Ted Bundy. In such cases it's because they have the same spirits that match up. It's one seducing spirit hooking up with another one like itself. Birds of a feather flock together.
