I am fairly new to the world of spiders & am confused by it's behaviour, it doesn't want to eat & doesn't respond immediately when I storke it's abdomen, as if it's asleep.

Well how long have you had it? At least twice a year, spiders go into idle mode, and that's mainly because they are about to shed. They will start filling thier habitat with webs until they make one suitable enough to shed in. One morning you may find your spider on its back...don't be alarmed, it's just shedding. You can actually watch it, its pretty neat...it slips out of its skin like jammies! Tarantulas can go for a few weeks without eating and survive. As a matter of fact, after it sheds, it'll be a while before it can eat again, it has to wait for its teeth to harden. Try blowing on your spider, they hate that and will move immeadiatley. As long as it moves, you shouldn't worry too much about its laziness.

Would this White House have been better served to have provided clear, accurate and undoctored responses to questions before they blew up in their faces? To say they did not amend the story on Benghazi and be caught in that lie. To say (in very parsed words) they (Obama) and his White House had no prior knowledge or the IRS scandal, when it was on several news reports over 2 years. To back an AG that had to use Executive Privilege to hide it's illegal actions in Gun Runner. To have an AG that did not follow the limited scope of the law with the AP phone record/wire taps. If Obama and his Dept heads had just told the truth the first time around there would not be several hearing going on all at the same time. Transparency was a myth they used to convince some people to support them and it just may backfire in 2014 and 2016.

There's a section on kingsnake.com for insect/spider hobbyists, you might want to check there for a breeder that you can talk with. Also, there's a very good breeder listed as a vendor at the MARS Show website, www.reptileinfo.com.

Also, I don't know much about South American geography, but I doubt if anything from Brazil will hibernate.

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to say on the matter, but why on EARTH would you even want to stroke a tarantulas abdomen?!? Anyhow, good luck with that :-)
