Brighton is fun by the sea (Victoria Station if you're central or East Croydon if you are in South London) and lots to see and do. Oxford is also nice (buses every 20 minutes from Victoria Coach Station).

You should try Bath, it is really historical and the city itself is full of culture. Maybe you should try Nottingham as well, coz that has a lot of historical places like the Nottingham Cathedral or Sherwood Forest. Or you could go to the Cheddar Gorge in the West country, that is the placw where they actually make the Cheddar cheese. Or you could go to Chatham and Kent to see Leeds Castle, There's loads of things to do there as well. Or you could go to Devon just for the scenery and fresh air.

Try this site:www.thetravelinsider.info/britain/londonraildaytours.htm
Look for rail tours from London.
Of the suggestions listed, I'd recommend the ancient university towns of Oxford or Cambridge - historical, lovely buildings, good shopping and restaurants/pubs etc.

Brighton definitely.
You can get B&Bs and hotels for fairly cheap at this time of year. I recommend the Brighton Charter Hotel, it is friendly and family-run business right on the seafront and great value:

You can get a 3 course meal for £6 at nearby Pablos restaurant:
http://www.brighton-eating.com/2114.htm
And there are loads of shops and bars nearby as well.
Have fun!

Natural history museum, right next to the science museum all down at south ken tube....V&A....great fun too...all free...but try and donate something. The Tate, the Tate modern, Tate Britain?, The Royal Festival Hall, The TV and Film Museum, Spitafields market (liverpool street) Borough market (but check best days 1st)....great food...and I mean great food on certain days each month. London eye (that costs a bit, but worth it) Covent Garden (if you really want to be a tourist....loads of street performers) Brick lane, Portabella market, Notting hill market, There is a huge in door antiques fair in near Edgewear Road. In summer nothing beats eating out in Little Venice/ Maida Vale, Window shopping in harrods or Harvey Nicks in knightbridge....hyde park, st james park, westminster abbey, that great giant catholic place near victoria strain station, Kings road (window shopping) Charlotte street for food.....everywhere, any where...LONDON is the best...why just visit....come live here its the best city in the world!!!!
