That is really weird. I hadn't heard of the Black Eyed Kids before your post. Sort of creepy, but I doubt it's true. Shame there wasn't any scientific input on the possibility.

Never heard of this before and looked it up... this stuff always makes a fun read anyway.
Makes me wonder, if these "kids" have some kind of low-level mind control, why can't they do something about their eyes? Sometimes a writer or other person can invent something to make money and then other people start adding to these stories (hoax, make money, etc..).
Then, of course... it could be a psyche experiment... put black eyes on a subject to see how people react. I'll betcha' they'll all get spooked PLUS they'll start imagining the worst (demons, evil, telepathy, etc...). Sheesh!! If I ever came across anything like this, I would freakin ask questions and get to the bottom of it, including looking for a hidden candid camera and taking some pics of my own!
They also sell "black eyes" (like other contact lenses). This is another strong possibility. Makes for a great gag.
Bottom line is that people are tools and instead of investigating anything, they "feel" the answers. Like religion. Nobody needs proof. They just "know" what it is. Makes me sick to think about it.
Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Eyed_Kids
Black Eyed Kids (sometimes called Black Eyed Children or BEK) are said to be children with eyes that are solid black, with no differentiation between sclera, pupil or iris. Those who report encounters with them often feel that the children were somehow supernatural and very dangerous. The first known sighting was recounted in a 1997 usenet posting by journalist Brian Bethel.

I read this twice. The way you layer longer story-related prose is admirable, and something I have much trouble with. You make it seem effortless, natural, but all of us who write know the opposite is true. I often measure the effectiveness of a piece by the number of TD's........Jealousy rears it's green head. Kudos to you, Mr Carney.

LOL this is so silly. Considering the fact that the guy that first encountered them met them in 1997 I believe they were probably wearing contact lenses. It does make for a funny story. Why don't you talk about something real like Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster?

I am aware of this phenomenon. I have never experienced it myself, thankfully.
These 'children' are generally thought to be without a soul, possibly demons. Sometimes they act as a warning that something bad is going to happen (making me question-Would a demon do that?). They also are said to sometimes take the soul of a person who invites them into their home/car/location.
I have spoken with people who have had encounters with the BEK. Generally, they seem to have experienced them in a car on a dark and stormy night. I am still out on my 'belief' of them. They seem like an urban legend at best to me.
I'd recommend anyone who does see BEK to be extra careful!

Well the BLK better be careful because if they are trying to conquer the world I'll be there to stop them and by any chance if you ever see any such sign which has an eye in a triangle with a big two (roman numerals) in front then they, BLK, better be careful for they are in for somehting. Besides the BLK is nothing compared to the ILLUMINATI, FREE MASONS, SKULLS AND BONES LEADERSHIP and so on. Anyway I am quite interested in this BLK so please do write to me of what actzactly is the BLK wheter it is an individual, society, cult, club, etc. Please do contact me and write to me telling me about the BLK.

I guess now that racists aren't supposed to pick on Blacks or Italians or Irish or Chinese any more, they need something new to pick on, so they are looking for people with some recognizable feature that will be "evil". I guess people who believe in this are just about one step away from wanting to burn them at the stake!
